BBC Bans Azzam Ameen From Attending Press Conference

BBC, in a ridiculous move, has prevented its journalist Azzam Ameen from attending press conferences and conducting interviews in Sri Lanka.
Ameen, one of the most popular journalists in Sri Lanka, is known for asking 'tough questions' fearlessly from politicians during press conferences.
He recently won an award as the most popular journalist on social media. The journalist has been working for BBC Sandeshaya, the Sinhala service of BBC, for several years.
BBC has not given a reason for banning Ameen from attending press conference.
However, sources told Asian Mirror that the decision might have been influenced by 'political pressure'.
The BBC Sinhala Service is headed by Sangeeth Kalubowila, a former Director of the Maharaja Media Network. Killy Maharaja, the owner of the Maharaja group, is believed to be a close friend of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Our attempts to contact Ameen to get a comment did not bear fruit.
