In his Hijri 1447 Islamic New Year message, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader and Member of Parliament Rauff Hakeem expressed hopes for global peace and unity among Muslims.
He stated, “Let us face all challenges successfully, make the best use of every opportunity, and work hard for unity. Let us pray to Almighty Allah for lasting peace across the world in this newly born Islamic New Year.”
Following the sighting of the Muharram new moon in various parts of the country, officially announced at the Colombo Grand Mosque tonight, Hakeem issued his New Year message, adding:
"The Islamic calendar, or Hijri year, was established based on the historic migration (Hijrah) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions from Makkah to Madinah, during a time when the enemies of Islam increased their oppression."
He further pointed out that Muslims around the world are entering this new Islamic year amid severe circumstances, including the ongoing genocide in Palestine backed by some world powers, and unilateral military strikes on Iran by Israel and the United States.
“As we step into this new Islamic year with the blessed sighting of the Muharram moon, may Allah bless us all with divine guidance, protection, good health, happiness, peace, and the strength to continue walking the path of justice,” he concluded. (CeylonMuslim)
