The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has decided to nominate Abdul Wazeeth to fill the vacancy created in Parliament following the resignation of Mohamed Sali Naleem in March.
M.S. Abdul Wasith, the former Chairman of the Pottuvil Pradeshiya Sabha, has been appointed today (28.06.2025) as a National List Member of Parliament representing the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC).This appointment was made upon the recommendation of SLMC Leader and Member of Parliament, Attorney-at-Law Alhaj Rauff Hakeem, and was officially granted by the party’s General Secretary and MP, Nizam Kariyapper (PC).
The appointment ceremony was graced by several notable attendees, including MP and SLMC Deputy National Organizer M.S. Uthumalebbe, the party’s Ampara District Executive Committee Secretary A.C. Samaldeen, religious scholars (Ulamas), and other dignitaries.
SLMC National List MP Mohamed Sali Naleem resigned from his position on March 14, in order to contest the 2025 Local Government Election for the Eravur Urban Council. Naleem was sworn in as a member of the Tenth Parliament before the Speaker on December 03. He had also previously served as the Chairman of the Eravur Urban Council (CeylonMuslim)
